from the Stack's Bowers 2018 ANA sale, lot 23379

This specimen was lot 23379 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $336. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 1/2 Escudo, 1869/59-MoCH. Mexico City Mint. PCGS MS-63 Secure Holder. Fr-107; KM-378.5. Minimally toned and superbly detailed with pleasing reflective characteristics in the fields. Ideally suited for type representation and presently unsurpassed in grade (for this overdate variety) at PCGS and NGC." The Mexico City mint struck half escudos 1825-63 and 1868-69 and is the most common mint.
