CNG Lissner sale, lot 1922

This specimen was lot 1922 in Classical Numismatic Group's auction of the Richard Lissner collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $968. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO, Segunda República. 1867-1905. AV Escudo. Ciudad de México (Mexico City) mint. Dated 1869 Mo CH. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 64. Choice prooflike fully lustrous brilliant uncirculated. A great type coin and highest grade for the date. Only one 1825 graded higher at 65 for the type. Purchased from M. Louis Teller, June 1974." The Mexico City mint struck this type 1825-69 and this date is priced by the SCWC as a common issue. An issue from Culiacan in 1870 terminated the denomination.
