This specimen is a very scarce date of a series struck 1869-90 at the Potosi mint. This twenty-five centavos piece replaced the two reales struck since colonial times. It, in turn, was replaced by a smaller twenty centavos piece in 1898. This specimen was lot 9121 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $747.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Potosi. 25 Centavos, 1869-PiS. Scarce date and exceptional quality. Traces of adjustment marks, sharply struck. ALMOST UNCIRCULATED."

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.903 fine silver, .196 troy oz ASW.
