This specimen is from a series struck 1868-70 at the Chihuahua mint and 1863 at San Luis Potosí. This five centavos piece was superseded by the "standing eagle" type struck 1869-97. It, in turn, was replaced by a "slim eagle" five centavos piece (KM 400) in 1898. The first specimen was lot 2271 in Goldberg sale 93 (Los Angeles, September 2016), where it sold for $188. The catalog description[1] noted, "Mexico. 5 Centavos, 1869-CA NGC AU53. Only 2 examples graded higher in the NGC census. NGC graded AU-53."

Specification: 1.35 g, 0.903 fine silver, 14 mm diameter, .039 troy oz ASW.

Recorded mintage: 30,000.
