Stack's Bowers 2025 ANA sale, lot 41372

This specimen was lot 41372 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Oklahoma City, OK, August 2025), where it sold for $5,280. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Escudo, 1870-C CE. Culiacan Mint. NGC MS-63. A lovely Mint State example, delivering appealing luster, sharp details, and only the most limited signs of marking or handling." The SCWC lists this mint for 1846-57, 1861-63, 1866 and 1870. The bullion value now exceeds the catalog value for all dates yet, although Culiacan is overall a common mint, many individual dates are rare, such as this one.
