This specimen was lot 72286 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $3,600. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 50 Centavos, 1870-Pi G. San Luis Potosi Mint. NGC AU-53. Second finest grade[d] by NGC. Best is AU-55. Nice example of scarce one year assayer. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Decimal Minors." This type is listed for the San Luis Potosi mint 1870-87 and most dates are fairly common despite the modest mintages. This date is slightly better but high grade examples are very rare. This specimen realized eight times the catalog value. Assayer G operated 1870 only while assayer O is known for 1870-73. The SCWC reports an 1870/1780 overdate.

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.903 fine silver, 30.5 mm diameter, reeded edge.
