This specimen was lot 74797 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $432. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 50 Centavos, 1871-Pi O/G. San Luis Potosi Mint. NGC EF-45. A wholesome and evenly worn example of this interesting 'over-assayer' type. The surfaces are a light gray with mottled darker toning." This type is listed for the San Luis Potosi mint 1870-87 and most dates are common despite the modest mintages. This overassayer is recorded in the SCWC but is awarded no premium.
