from the Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale, lot 21231

This specimen was lot 21231 in Stack's Bowers 2018 NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $1,920. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Peso, 1871 7/1-CnP. NGC MS-63. RARE grade for this mint. Good strike with glowing luster and excellent eye appeal. From the Alex Siegel Collection." This issue from Culiacan is among the scarce dates. Other mints include Guanajuato (common), Oaxaca (scarce), Mexico City (common), Chihuahua (scarce), Guadalajara (rare), Durango (scarce), Zacatecas (common) and Potosi (scarce). An 1871/11 overdate is awarded a slight premium over the normal date.
