Heritage sale 3010, lot 21594

This specimen was lot 21594 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), where it sold for $1,150. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Republic gold 10 Pesos 1871ZS-H, AU58 NGC, very light circulation on the high points. Low mintage of only 2,000 pieces. From the Don Benito Collection of Hispanic Gold." Zacatecas produced this denomination 1871-95 in sufficient numbers that it is considered a common mint for the type. Mintage figures are not a reliable indicator of rarity for this type due to the accidents of hoarding; many low mintage issues are readily available while other high mintage issues are very rare.
