Shown is a balance scale fifty centavos, the final issue of a type struck 1869-1895. This issue from Hermosillo is a rare date, a contrast with the 1894-Ho, which is very common. Other mints include Mexico City, Zacatecas, Durango, Culiacan, Chihuahua, Guanajuato, Alamos and Potosi. The second specimen was lot 9195 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $632.50. The catalog description[1] noted, “MEXICO. Hermosillo. 50 Centavos, 1895-HoG. Very scarce date and exceptional condition. One tiny edge bump, toned. EXTREMELY FINE.”

Specification: 13.54 g, 0.903 fine silver, .393 troy oz ASW.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Catalog reference: KM 407.5.
