This specimen was lot 71243 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2018), where it sold for $360. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1895/3-GaJS. NGC MS-64. 1895/3 overdate, only visible on upper left corner of 5. Only 3 of this overdate have been certified at NGC. Sharply struck with rich purple-blue toning throughout, a great example of how toning can enrich the look of silver." This is the final year of operation for this mint, which was closed when its lease ran out. The overdate obtains a slight premium over the regular date.
