This specimen was of lot 24437 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it sold for $10,575. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 20 Pesos 1895/3 Go-R, AU58 NGC. Sharply struck with considerable remaining luster. An extremely rare issue. The first example we have offered, and only the second example we can find on record as being offered at auction." This specimen is one of a series struck at the Guanajuato mint 1870-1900. Although production was substantial, many dates are rare. Mintage figures are not a reliable indicator of rarity for this type due to the accidents of hoarding; many low mintage issues are readily available while other high mintage issues are very rare.

Recorded mintage: 7,118.

Specification: 33.84 g, 0.875 fine gold, .952 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: KM 414.4.
