Mexico 1895-As L 5 centavos

from the Stack's Bowers sale of the Kirk Menczer Collection, lot 71076

This specimen was lot 71076 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $2,880. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 5 Centavos, 1895-As L. Alamos Mint. NGC MS-65. Rare condition for this scarcer mint. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Decimal Minors." The Alamos mint struck silver five centavos 1874-80, 1886-95 and is accounted a scarcer mint compared to Zacatecas or Guanajuato. Assayer ML (shown here as "L") operated from 1879 until the mint closed in 1895.

Recorded mintage: 20,000, a common date for the mint.

Specification: 1.35 g, 0.903 fine silver, 14 mm diameter, reeded edge.
