This specimen was lot 71076 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $2,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 5 Centavos, 1895-As L. Alamos Mint. NGC MS-65. Rare condition for this scarcer mint. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Decimal Minors." The Alamos mint struck silver five centavos 1874-80, 1886-95 and is accounted a scarcer mint compared to Zacatecas or Guanajuato. Assayer ML (shown here as "L") operated from 1879 until the mint closed in 1895.
Recorded mintage: 20,000, a common date for the mint.
Specification: 1.35 g, 0.903 fine silver, 14 mm diameter, reeded edge.
