This specimen was lot 2839 in Goldberg sale 78 (Los Angeles, January 2014), where it sold for $1,645. The catalog description[1] noted, "Mexico. 20 Pesos, 1897/6 Go R. Republic. Scales and Liberty Cap. Reverse: Eagle. PCGS graded Genuine, About Uncirculated, Details (Rim Damage)." This specimen is one of a series struck at the Guanajuato mint 1870-1900. Although production was substantial, many dates are rare. Mintage figures are not a reliable indicator of rarity for this type due to the accidents of hoarding; many low mintage issues are readily available while other high mintage issues are very rare.

Recorded mintage: 6,781.

Specification: 33.84 g, 0.875 fine gold, .951 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Fr-124; KM-414.4.
