Mexico 1897-Cn M peso

This specimen is a common date of a series struck 1873-1905 at the Culiacan mint. Mexico City is the commonest mint, followed by Guanajuato, Culiacan, Zacatecas (scarce), Hermosillo (rare), Alamos (rare) and Chihuahua (rare). Even the common dates have low mintages but the type was widely hoarded, making it reasonably available today. Numerous date varieties exist. This specimen was lot 1397 in Ponterio sale 182 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $587.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Peso, 1897/6-CnM. ICG MS-67. Mintage of only 785 pieces." The SCWC does not mention the overdate.
