This specimen was lot 71467 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 10 Centavos, 1897-Z_ Z. Zacatecas Mint. NGC VF-30. Error with missing "s" in mintmark. Only example graded by NGC. Rare error. Normal date. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Decimal Minors." This date marks the last in a series of “Z Z” errors, where the “s” was omitted from the mintmark. Similar errors are known for 1885, 1888, 1890 and 1896. The SCWC mentions an 1897/6 overdate. Zacatecas also struck the ten centavos with the redesigned eagle 1898-1905.

Recorded mintage: 900,000, a common date.

Specification: 2.70 g, 0.903 fine silver, 18 mm diameter, reeded edge.
