The first specimen was lot 71465 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $65. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 10 Centavos, 1896-Zs Z/G. Zacatecas Mint. NGC EF-40. Second finest of only two graded. Rare variety. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Decimal Minors." The second specimen was lot 71466 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, October 2025), where it sold for $85. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 10 Centavos, 1896-Z_ Z. Zacatecas Mint. NGC VF Details--Obverse Damage. Error with missing "s" in mintmark. Scarce error. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Decimal Minors." This date marks the fourth in a series of “Z Z” errors, where the “s” was omitted from the mintmark. Similar errors are known for 1885, 1888, 1890 and 1897. Zacatecas also struck the ten centavos with the redesigned eagle 1898-1905.

Recorded mintage: 700,000, a common date.

Specification: 2.70 g, 0.903 fine silver, 18 mm diameter, reeded edge.
