This specimen is a very scarce date of a series struck 1898-1904 at the Culiacan mint. This ten centavos piece replaced the upright eagle type issued 1869-97. This specimen was lot 9006 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $172.50. The catalog description[1] noted, “MEXICO. Culiacan. 10 Centavos, 1898-CnM. Dark toned. NGC AU-55."

Specification: 2.707 g, 0.903 fine silver, 18 mm diameter, .078 troy oz ASW, reeded edge.

Recorded mintage: 9,870.
