from the Stack's Bowers 2017 ANA sale, lot 21226
Mexico SB517-21226r.jpg

This specimen was lot 21226 in Stack's Bowers ANA Auction (Denver, CO, August 2017), where it sold for $1,645. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 10 Pesos, 1898/7-MoM. PCGS MS-62 Secure Holder. Clear overdate. Sharply struck, lustrous and lightly toned. From the Blue Moon Collection." This specimen is one of a series struck at the Mexico City mint 1870-1905. Despite the trifling mintage, this is listed as a common date. Only the overdate is known to exist; it seems improbable that more than one die was needed. Mintage figures are not a reliable indicator of rarity for this type due to the accidents of hoarding; many low mintage issues are readily available while other high mintage issues are very rare.

Recorded mintage: 244.

Specification: 16.92 g, 0.875 fine gold, .476 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: KM-413.7; Fr-128.
