Jean Elsen sale 152, lot 1727

This specimen was lot 1727 in Jean Elsen sale 152 (Brussels, September 2022), where it sold for €140 (about US$169 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"CUBA, République (1902-), AR 50 pesos (5 oz), s.d. (1992). Les rois catholiques d'Espagne. 550 p. frappées. Flan poli. (republic of Cuba, undated silver fifty pesos (five troy oz) of 1992, the Catholic Kings. 550 pieces struck. Proof.)"

After the release of many self-congratulatory NCLT's was greeted by disinterest from the world at large, the regime switched to less political topics such as sports and history. This was part of an extensive series celebrating Colombus's discovery of the New World.

Recorded mintage: 550 proofs.

Specification: 155.52 g, 0.999 fine silver, 5.00 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM 381.
