Jean Elsen sale 152, lot 1716

This specimen was lot 1716 in Jean Elsen sale 152 (Brussels, September 2022), where it sold for €135 (about US$163 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"CUBA, République (1902-), AR 50 pesos (5 oz), 1991. Reine Jeanne d'Espagne. 1000 p. frappées. Flan poli. (republic of Cuba, silver fifty pesos (five troy oz) of 1991, queen Juana of Spain, 1000 pieces struck. Proof.)"

After the release of many self-congratulatory NCLT's was greeted by disinterest from the world at large, the regime switched to less political topics such as sports and history. This was part of an extensive series celebrating Colombus's discovery of the New World.

Recorded mintage: 1,000 proofs.

Specification: 155.52 g, 0.999 fine silver, 5.00 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM 432.
