This specimen was lot 30394 in Heritage sale 3081 (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $2,280. The catalog description[1] noted, "Cuba, Republic gold Proof "La Giralda Tower" 100 Pesos 1991 PR68 Ultra Cameo NGC. A scarcer Proof type in lofty premium gem grade. From the El Don Diego Luna Collection." The year 1991 saw the release of many NCLT's by the regime featuring the 500th anniversary of Columbus's discovery of America. Greeted by disinterest from the world at large, many are now rare. The Giralda is the bell tower of Seville Cathedral in Seville, Spain. It was built as the minaret for the Great Mosque of Seville in al-Andalus, Moorish Spain, during the reign of the Almohad dynasty, with a Renaissance-style top added by the Catholics after the expulsion of the Muslims from the area.
