Jean Elsen sale 152, lot 1723

This specimen was lot 1723 in Jean Elsen sale 152 (Brussels, September 2022), where it sold for €80 (about US$97 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"CUBA, République (1902-), AR 30 pesos (3 oz), 1991. Diego Velazquez. 1000 p. frappées. Flan poli. (republic of Cuba, silver thirty pesos (three troy oz) of 1991, Diego Velazquez. One thousand pieces struck. Proof.)"

After the release of many self-congratulatory NCLT's was greeted by disinterest from the world at large, the regime switched to less political topics such as sports and history. This was part of an extensive series celebrating Colombus's discovery of the New World.

Recorded mintage: 1,000 proofs.

Specification: 93.31 g, 0.999 fine silver, 3.00 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM 431.
