Cuba H3081-30402r.jpg

This specimen was lot 30402 in Heritage sale 3081 (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $3,120. The catalog description[1] noted, "Cuba, Republic gold Proof "Ernesto Che Guevara" 100 Pesos 1992 PR68 Ultra Cameo NGC. Celebrating the freedom fighter Ernesto "Che" Guevara. From the El Don Diego Luna Collection." The year 1992 saw the release of many NCLT's by the regime featuring the 500th anniversary of Columbus's discovery of America. Greeted by disinterest from the world at large, many are now rare. Che Guevara was Castro's right hand man during the Revolution but found himself increasingly distanced from the Maximum Leader during the 1960's. This led him to seek glory elsewhere, where he found his death in 1967 trying to foment rebellion in Bolivia.

Recorded mintage: unknown but all proofs.

Specification: 31.10 g, 0.999 fine gold, 1.000 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: KM 570, Fr-75.
