Cuba H3081-30405r.jpg

This specimen was lot 30405 in Heritage sale 3081 (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $3,840. The catalog description[1] noted, "Cuba, Republic gold "Bolivar & Marti" 100 Pesos 1993 MS70 NGC, Havana mint. Struck in commemoration of Bolivar and Marti. An exceedingly rare type, as this issue is nearly identical to the 200 Pesos design, yet with a total production of only 12 pieces. From the El Don Diego Luna Collection." The year 1993 saw the release of many NCLT's by the regime featuring the 500th anniversary of Columbus's discovery of America. Greeted by disinterest from the world at large, many are now rare. This is listed in Friedberg only in the 200 pesos denomination. This appears to be the first time this issue has been offered at public auction.

Recorded mintage: 12 proofs.

Specification: 31.10 g, 0.999 fine gold, 1.000 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: KM 916, Fr-unlisted.
