Heritage sale 3081, lot 30419
Cuba H3081-30419r.jpg

This specimen was lot 30419 in Heritage sale 3081 (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $5,760. The catalog description[1] noted, "Cuba, Republic gold Proof "Chalicotherium" 200 Pesos 1993 PR69 Ultra Cameo NGC. A practically flawless premium gem. From the El Don Diego Luna Collection." The year 1993 saw the release of many NCLT's by the regime. Greeted by disinterest from the world at large, many are now rare. We wonder what relevance Chalicotherium has to the inevitable triumph of the dictatorship of the proletariat. Chalicotherium is an extinct ungulate, distantly related to horses, which lived in Europe and Asia in the Oligocene and Miocene. There is no evidence it ever trod the sacred soil of Cuba.

Recorded mintage: 100 proofs.

Specification: 31.10 g, 0.999 fine gold.

Catalog reference: KM 544, Fr-78.
