This specimen is a common date of a series struck 1874-90 at the Zacatecas mint, which closed in 1905. This twenty-five centavos piece replaced the two reales struck since colonial times. It, in turn, was replaced by a smaller twenty centavos piece in 1898. This specimen was lot 9132 in Ponterio sale 159 (Baltimore, March 2011), where it sold for $431.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Zacatecas. 25 Centavos, 1880-ZsS. Very attractive toning. NGC MS-65."

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.903 fine silver, .196 troy oz ASW.
