Stack's Bowers November 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70414

This specimen was lot 70414 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $336. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Reales, 1880/70-Ga FS. Guadalajara Mint. NGC MS-62. Variety with 1880/70 overdate. Nicely preserved and attractive, this well struck example displays pleasing light tone in the peripheries with lustrous surfaces." Assayer JA is listed for 1877-80 and assayer FS for 1880-82. Both are common but the overdate shown here is slightly scarce.

Recorded mintage: unknown but fairly common.

Specification: 27.07 g, 0.903 fine silver, .786 troy oz ASW.
