This specimen was lot 9825 in Ponterio sale 151 (Baltimore, November 2009), where it sold for $575. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Centavo, 1880-Go. VERY SCARCE in this high grade. Sharply struck BROWN UNCIRCULATED." Guanajuato struck this type 1874-80 only and all the dates are scarce in nice condition despite the fairly substantial mintage. Alamos, Culiacan, Hermosillo, Zacatecas and Mexico City also struck centavos in 1880.

Recorded mintage: 890,000.

Specification: 8 g, copper, 25 mm diameter, reeded edge.
