This specimen was lot 1717 in Sincona sale 38 (Zurich, May 2017), where it sold for 1,100 CHF (about US$1,319 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, <blockquote>"''Republik 8 Escudos 1868. C-CE-Culiacan, Sehr schön.'' (republic of Mexico, eight escudos of 1868, Culiacan mint. Very fine.)"</blockquote> The Culiacan mint struck eight escudos for Mexico 1846-70 and most dates are reasonably available. The CB assayer reported for 1868 is an error, caused by a die break.
