Shown is an 1868MoPH two reales, one of a type struck 1825-72. Assayer PH is recorded at the Mexico City mint for 1868 only. An 1868MoCH is also recorded for 1868 and given a slight premium; 1868 is the last year Mexico City struck this denomination, switching to the 25 centavos the next year. Other mints include Guanajuato, Guadalajara, Alamos, Hermosillo, Zacatecas, Culiacan, Chihuahua, Durango, Potosi, Estado de Mexico, Real de Catorce and Guadalupe y Calvo. Only Oaxaca did not strike this type. This type, legal tender in the pre Civil War United States for a quarter, is common except in uncirculated. The 1861MoCH is the only date of two reales that is reasonably common in high grade, the result of the dispersal of a hoard.
