The first specimen was lot 1145 in Goldberg sale 55 (Beverly Hills, October 2009), where it sold for $10,637.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Spain. 2 Excelentes, ND (Seville). Ferdinand V & Isabel I, 1476-1504. Crowned and draped busts of Ferdinand & Isabel facing each other, mint mark S between them. Reverse: Crowned arms of Spain with eagle behind. This is a wonderful example, crisp strike, bold portraits, and mint luster. This is an exceptional coin of this classic piece! NGC graded MS-65." The second specimen was lot 1288 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 38 (Winter Park, FL, November 2025), where it sold for $15,600. The catalog description[2] noted, "SPAIN, Seville, gold double excelente, Ferdinand-Isabel, assayer ermine at bottom, mintmark S with four dots at top between busts, NGC MS 63. Very sharp details (especially the portraits and eagle/crown/arms) with choice luster all over, fully readable Latin legends, one of the most attractive double excelentes we have ever offered, within the top 20% of all examples certified." Isabel was queen of Castile 1474-1504; Ferdinand king of Navarre and Aragon 1479-1516; their joint rule dates 1479-1504.
