Spain (1497-1504)-Seg A 4 reales
This specimen was lot 1327 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 39 (Winter Park, FL, May 2026), where it sold for $2,880. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN, Segovia, 4 reales, Ferdinand-Isabel, assayer A above quatrefoil to left, mintmark aqueduct on reverse, very broad flan, extremely rare, NGC VF 25, finest and only example in NGC census. Very broad flan (36mm, the size of some 8 reales!) extending past the outer borders, with 100% full crown and Latin legends in addition to all interior details despite some areas of weak strike, still with clear assayer (R5 in Pellicer i Bru, the rarest assayer of this mint, which is in itself rare in this denomination), richly old-toned all over." This mint also comes with assayers C, D and P, all rare. The Seville four reales is very common, the Toledo four reales moderately available, and Burgos and Granada rare. The Seville four reales has the mintmark on the obverse and the assayer on the reverse but this coin has the letters reversed.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 13.54 g, 0.931 fine silver, this specimen 13.45 grams.
