This specimen was lot 72214 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN. Cob 4 Reales, ND (1474-1504)-S*. Seville Mint. Ferdinand & Isabella. PCGS AU-55. This beautiful 4 Reales piece is well-struck on a round planchet. The outer legends are nearly completely intact, with only a few spots of flatness. The surfaces are pleasingly toned to an even pewter-gray. The central details on both sides are complete and sharply detailed. A wonderfully original example, showing just two tiny edge splits. From the Pat Johnson Collection." Isabel was queen of Castile 1474-1504; Ferdinand king of Navarre and Aragon 1479-1516; their joint rule of Spain dates 1479-1504. Undated four reales are known from Burgos, Cuenca, Granada, Segovia, Seville and Toledo, most with multiple assayers.
