The first specimen was lot 23263 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Escudo, 1849/8-CCE. Culiacan Mint. PCGS EF-40 Secure Holder. Attractive for the grade with the overdate being rather clear." The Culiacan mint struck this type 1846-70 and this date is priced by the SCWC only 25% higher than a common Mexico City issue.
