This specimen was lot 72199 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $585.60. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 1/2 Real, 1849-Mo GC. Mexico City Mint. NGC MS-66. Tied with one other for highest graded by NGC. Attractive dark toning. Flaw on cap. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Half reales were struck at Mexico City 1825-63 with assayer GC recorded for 1848-55. Gem uncirculated half reales turn up occasionally for this mint.
