The first specimen was lot 73275 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $219.60. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 4 Reales, 1849-Pi MC/AM. San Luis Potosi Mint. NGC EF Details--Cleaned. Rare overassayer. Only example graded by NGC. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." The second specimen was part of lot 73294 in the same sale, which sold for $149. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Duo of 4 Reales (2 Pieces), 1849 & 1853. San Luis Potosi Mint. Average Grade: VERY FINE. 1) 1849-Pi MC. Small '4' in date. 2) 1853-Pi MC. Ex: VCA Collection. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Ten mints (Mexico City, Guadalupe y Calvo, Guanajuato, Potosi, Oaxaca, Hermosillo, Real del Catorce, Zacatecas, Guadalajara and Culiacan) struck this type of which Guanajuato is tied with Zacatecas as the commonest mint. Assayer MC stamped four reales 1849-59 while assayer PS is known for 1849, 1860-61 and 1868-69. The overassayer, MC/AM, is mentioned in the SCWC but not awarded any premium.
