Stack's Bowers 2023 NYINC sale, lot 21227

This specimen was lot 21227 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $2,280. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Escudos, 1849-Go PF. Guanajuato Mint. PCGS AU-58. Some minor striking weakness is noted, but this elegant example sports an even golden-orange hue with hardly any evidence of handling. As such, a charming and pleasing specimen. From the David Sterling Collection." The specimen shown is a middle date of a series struck 1828-70 at the Guanajuato mint. That mint struck all denominations, silver, gold and copper.
