Mexico 1850-Do JMR escudo

from the Stack's Bowers 2018 ANA sale, lot 23264

This specimen was lot 23264 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $288. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Escudo, 1850-DoJMR. Durango Mint. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, Unc Details Secure Holder. Free of wear with wispy hairlines that traverse the fields. Lustrous and attractive." The Durango mint produced one escudos 1832-38, 1846, 1850-55, 1859-64. This date is fairly common but many are rare.

Specification: 3.38 g, 0.875 fine gold, .095 troy oz AGW.
