This specimen was part of lot 72240 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $512.40. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Octet of 1/2 Reales (8 Pieces), 1831-50. San Luis Potosi Mint. Average Grade: VERY GOOD. 1) 1831-Pi JS. "i" over "P" in mintmark. 2) 1843-Pi AM. 3) 1844-Pi AM. 4) 1845-Pi AM. 5) 1845/3-Pi AM. 6) 1848-Pi AM. Rare. 7) 1849-Pi MC. 8) 1850/49-Pi MC. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Oaxaca and Real de Catorce did not strike this type. The San Luis Potosi mint struck half reales 1831, 1841-63 and most are scarcer than the SCWC indicates. Assayer MC (Mariano Catano) served 1849-59. The regular 1850-P^I is listed as common while the 1850/49 shown here is not priced.
