Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction, part of lot 73101

This specimen was part of lot 73101 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $1,159. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Group of 2 Reales (14 Pieces), 1844-53. Guanajuato Mint. Average Grade: VERY FINE. SOLD AS IS/NO RETURNS. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Two reales were struck at Guanajuato 1825-63 and 1867-68 with assayer PF recorded for 1848-68. Guanajuato and Zacatecas were the two mints which made a serious effort to strike minor coinage in addition to eight reales for export. This example appears to be the 1850/40 overdate.
