Ponterio sale 155, lot 6205

The first specimen was lot 6204 in Ponterio sale 155 (Baltimore, November 2010), where it sold for $218.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Chihuahua. 8 Reales, 1850 (5/4)-RG. Ex: Ponterio Auction #146, lot #364. Nice strike, dipped. ALMOST UNCIRCULATED."

The second specimen was lot 6205 in Ponterio sale 155 (Baltimore, November 2010), where it sold for $172.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Chihuahua. 8 Reales, 1850/40-RG. Cleaned. EXTREMELY FINE." The Chihuahua mint struck eight reales 1831-95. Many of the early dates are rare but this one is one of a run of somewhat available dates, 1842-50. The SCWC lists the normal date and a overdate, the 1850/40.
