Stack's Bowers 2014 ANA sale, lot 30731

This specimen was lot 30731 in Stack's Bowers ANA auction (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $423. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Chihuahua. 8 Reales, 1853/43-CaRG. NGC EF-40. Dark attractive toning. Scarce overdate." The Chihuahua mint struck eight reales 1831-95. Many of the early dates are rare but this one is still scarce, being priced twenty times a common date of the 1890's. The SCWC lists the normal date and an overdate, the 1853/43 shown here.
