This specimen was lot 72156 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $317.20. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 1/2 Real, 1853-Go PF. Guanajuato Mint. PCGS MS-63. Finest and only Mint State of just three graded by NGC. Medium toning. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Oaxaca and Real de Catorce did not strike this type. This specimen was struck at the Guanajuato mint in 1853, one of a type struck there 1826-68. Assayer PF is listed for 1848-61. The SCWC notes a 1853-PF/R variety.
