This specimen was lot 31670 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $352.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 1/2 Escudo 1853 C-CE, AU58 NGC. Softly struck central details but the legends are quite bold." The specimen shown is from the Culiacan mint, which struck half escudos 1848 and 1853-70 and is considered a common mint. The "Sonoran" eagle is distinctive to the mints of Guadalupe y Calvo and Culiacan.
