Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction, lot 72450

This specimen was lot 72450 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $463.60. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Real, 1853-Zs OM. Zacatecas Mint. NGC MS-61. Finest and only Mint State example of three coins graded. Other two are VF. Rare condition for date. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Of the fourteen mints of the Republic of Mexico, only Oaxaca and Real de Catorce did not strike this type. The Zacatecas mint struck one reales 1826-62 and 1868-69. Assayer OM (Manuel Ochoa and Manuel Miner) is noted for 1831-56. The SCWC notes this date as common and cites no varieties. Unlike the half reales, which appear occasionally in gem condition, this denomination nearly always comes heavily circulated.
