This specimen was lot 73113 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2024), where it sold for $4,030. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. 8 Escudos, 1853-Do CP. Durango Mint. PCGS AU-53. A handsome shimmery example of the type, free of cleaning or excessive marks. The well-struck detail remains intact and quite alluring paired with the coin's rich golden glow." The Durango mint struck eight escudos 1832-70 and is one of the abundant mints tho less so than Culiacan or Guanajuato; many dates are common. The eagle is distinctive to Durango and can be found on all the silver and gold denominations.

Recorded mintage: unknown but not a rare date.
