This specimen was part of lot 73294 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), which sold for $149. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. Duo of 4 Reales (2 Pieces), 1849 & 1853. San Luis Potosi Mint. Average Grade: VERY FINE. 1) 1849-Pi MC. Small "4" in date. 2) 1853-Pi MC. Ex: VCA Collection. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Ten mints (Mexico City, Guanajuato, Zacatecas, Potosi, Oaxaca, Hermosillo, Real del Catorce, Guadalupe y Calvo, Guadalajara and Culiacan) struck this type of which Guanajuato is tied with Zacatecas as the commonest mint. The Potosi mint struck four reales 1837-38, 1842-64 and 1868-69. The 1853 is common for the mint; the SCWC cites no varieties.
