Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction, lot 73279

This specimen was lot 73279 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $640.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 4 Reales, 1852-Pi MC. San Luis Potosi Mint. NGC AU-53. Highest graded by NGC. Rare condition for this date. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Ten mints (Mexico City, Guanajuato, Zacatecas, Potosi, Oaxaca, Hermosillo, Real del Catorce, Guadalupe y Calvo, Guadalajara and Culiacan) struck this type of which Guanajuato is tied with Zacatecas as the commonest mint. The Potosi mint struck four reales 1837-38, 1842-64 and 1868-69. The 1852 is common for the mint; the SCWC cites no varieties.
