Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction, lot 73207

This specimen was lot 73207 in Stack's Bowers June 2026 World Premier Collectors Choice Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2026), where it sold for $671. The catalog description^[1] noted, "MEXICO. 4 Reales, 1852-Ga JG. Guadalajara Mint. NGC VF Details--Cleaned. Very rare date. Tied for second finest of just three examples graded by NGC. From the Kirk Menczer Collection of Republican Reales Minors." Ten mints (Mexico City, Guanajuato, Zacatecas, Potosi, Oaxaca, Hermosillo, Real del Catorce, Guadalupe y Calvo, Guadalajara and Culiacan) struck this type of which Guanajuato is tied with Zacatecas as the commonest mint. Four reales are known from Guadalajara for 1843-50, 1855-60 and 1863. The early dates are fairly common but all the dates after 1846 are scarce to rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a very rare date, unpriced in the SCWC.
